The edition window is divided into two parts. The upper part is used to draw the map. It includes a set of buttons to create/modify/delete the boxes and arrows. The lower part is used for editing the contents and properties of a selected map box: hyperlinks, description, colour.
Use the "Add box" button to create a new box. It will appear at the center of the screen.
To select the box, click on it using the left mouse button (noted [LMB] hereafter). When a box is selected, its border turns red.
To edit the title of a box, double-click on it. A window appears in which you can edit the title. When you finished editing the title, click outside this window once to close it.
You can position a box in your map by dragging and dropping it.
Select the box you want to remove, then click the "Remove selected box" button. You can remove several boxes simultaneously.
To draw an arrow between two boxes, first select the two boxes you want to link using [CTRL+LMB] or [SHIFT+LMB]. Then click the "Add arrow between selected boxes" button. Note that the arrow is drawn from the box that was selected first to the second one. You can also select several boxes to draw arrows in one step: the arrows will go from the first selected box to each of the others.
To select an arrow, select the boxes linked by this arrow using [CTRL+LMB] or [SHIFT+LMB]. Pay attention to select the box from which it starts first, then the one where it ends. You can select several arrows starting from a single box by selecting the associated boxes. The selected boxes and arrows turn red.
To remove the arrow between boxes, first select it (see above), then click the "Remove arrow between selected boxes" button. You can remove several selected arrows all at once.
To work on a large map, you will find more confortable to use the "wide edition frame". To switch on/off this mode, use the "switch to/from full screen mode" button.
When your map is larger than the edition frame, you may want to move it from the centered position. You can move it manually, by dragging and dropping the background of the frame, or using the "move map up/down/right/left" buttons.
To center your map in the edition frame, click the "Center map" button.
This function is available only when the advanced edition mode is selected in the configuration tab. By default, the arrow's starting and ending points are automaticaly linked to the middle of the nearest box edges. It is possible to change these anchoring points: there are twenty of them available per box. To do so, select the arrow you want to move (see above). Then click one of the four "turn arrow start/end clockwise/counterclockwise" buttons depending on what you want to change.
Once you have changed the position of an arrow, you may want to restore its automatic positioning. To do so, select the arrow, then click one of the two "Restore automatic positioning of arrow start/end" buttons depending on for which end you want the positioning to be automatic.
The box contents window has four tabs whose features are described below.
Select the box you want to attach hyperlinks to. Open the "Attached links" tab. To create the first link, click the "add a link to selected box" button. Two text fields appear. Copy the URL of the web page you want to link in the right one and enter a title for this link in the left one. Choose an informative title, and properly indicate the origin of the page you are linking to. You can also load the exact title of the related page by clicking the "fetch this page's title" arrow button located between the two text fields. You can add a new link or remove the current one by using the (+) or (-) buttons located at the right end of the line. With the left hand arrows, you can change the oder in which the links are displayed.
If you have activated the "Display a target for dragging links directly on box" option in the "Graph configuration" tab, you can also add a link by dragging the URL (for instance displayed in the URL field of a Web browser) into the link target on the box. The URL and title fields are automatically filled. This makes possible to work ergonomically with two web browsers windows side to side
Select a box, then click the "Description" tab. Enter the description text for your box in this tab.
You can fill a box with a color. Select the box, then the "color" tab and click the color you want. You can color several boxes all at once.
